Brake pads are the reason your vehicle is able to stop. They allow drivers to adjust their speed however they want and whenever necessary. Driving with damaged brakes puts you and other road users at a higher risk of accidents. Here are signs you need to get new brakes from a certified Cadillac dealer.

5 Signs You Need to Get New Brake Pads from a Cadillac Dealer

1. Vibrating Brake Pedals

When you start experiencing vibration on the brake pedals or the entire car while trying to slow down, there’s a problem. If your pads are contaminated with dirt or oil, vibration will occur when the pads clamp on the rotor. You may also have an improper wheel alignment or a warped or cracked brake disk.

2. Takes Longer to Stop

If you’re taking longer than usual to stop, you need to reach out to your dealership as soon as possible. When a car’s brakes are used over a prolonged period and are worn out, they are unable to add the necessary pressure on the rooter to immediately stop the wheels from spinning.

3. Brake Fluid is Leaking

If you have a brake fluid leakage, you definitely need a brake job. The brake system is meant to be closed, so if you’re rapidly losing brake fluid, you should be concerned. The easiest way to confirm if you have a brake fluid leak is by checking under the car. You may have a leak if there’s a small puddle of fluid beneath your car. The fluid is light yellow when fresh and gets darker as it ages.

4. Strange Noises

If your brakes almost reach their end-life, they’ll produce squeaking or squealing sounds. Extremely worn-out pads often cause squealing sounds. Once completely worn out, they’ll start producing a grinding noise, eventually destroying your rotors, which will be more expensive to repair.

Some modern brakes have metal wear indicators that are designed to produce loud sounds and warn drivers when it’s time to get new pads.

5. Warning Light Appears

When you start your vehicle, it carries out a bulb check. All bulbs illuminate on the dashboard, and as every bulb passes its test, it’s turned off. If you see the brake warning light or any other light, you shouldn’t ignore it. The most likely reason is that the brake fluid levels have gone extremely low, hence requiring a top-up.

Always check the brake fluid reservoir to ensure it’s at the right fluid level to maintain perfect performance. Contact your dealership if you try to fill the brake fluid, but the warning lights still show up.
